He also commended the impressive performance of Romanian companies exporting to the United States, the value of Romanian exports amounting to about triple of what American companies export to Romania - a significant commercial surplus that creates very favorable trade terms, and shared the expectation that total bilateral trade will amount to USD 5 bn. in 2023.

key remarks
by Romanian officials

Ștefan Radu Oprea, Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism

Minister Oprea noted that Romania should seize the current momentum and capitalize on its role as a pillar of stability within the increasingly relevant Black Sea region. He put forward a two-fold approach that should govern the bilateral economic relation going forward: the influx of U.S. technology and investments in Romania, and the expansion of local businesses on the U.S. market. Among the economic sectors that hold the biggest promises he mentioned Defense, Energy, IT&C, Minerals, Manufacturing, and Supply Chains.

Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy

"The challenge that we face today is how to achieve a green and a just transition, in the context of achieving security, protecting our citizens, and providing them with affordable energy. It's a trilemma that nobody has solved yet, but we can do it together - through innovation, vision, and financing."

Minister Burduja stressed that Romania's diverse energy mix makes the country a pillar of stability, prosperity, and security for the 3SI region, and Europe overall, reinforcing the growing relevance of the region not only in the context of the war in Ukraine, but most importantly for the post-war reconstruction. He emphasized the huge local market that can support the development and the deployment of clean technologies, and the critical role of the Neptun Deep project in achieving energy independence and security. He called for stronger regional connectivity and for embracing innovation as a solution to the secure-green-energy challenge.
